The Blyth Brussels Crusaders PeeWee Local League squad posted an impressive record this year, ending the season with a 13-2 record and the Western Ontario Athletics Association Division Championship.
The team ended the season on a five-game winning-streak and then ended the post-season with a 13-2 record.
“It was a pretty great end to the season,” coach Jamie Nicholson said.
The squad had a bit of a setback when they managed two ties and a loss in Young Canada Week in Goderich in March, but came out swinging when they started their final series against the Walkerton Capitals.
The squad finished its season on March 29. The team earned a 2-1 victory over the Walkerton Capitals to end their best-of-three series 2-1 after losing to the Capitals 3-2 on the road in game two and besting them 5-4 in Brussels on March 20 in the first game of the series.
While the season ended well, Nicholson said that it took some time before the team started to really play well together.
The team had posted many ties and losses from the season start in September until late November when the squad went 2-2 at a PeeWee Local League tournament in Langton.
“When the season started, things didn’t look positive,” Nicholson said. “After that tournament, the team started to gel better. We won the ‘B’ Division there and things rolled on.”
Nicholson said the entire team played well together after that tournament and the coaches were very impressed with how the year played out.
