Watson's Home Hardware opens Blyth location - March 22, 2018
BY DENNY SCOTT
Watson’s Home Hardware officially opened their new Blyth location, formerly the Castle Building Centre on Hamilton Street, on Monday.
The site, which the company took possession of two weeks ago, required some renovations before they were ready to open, however Norm and Richard Watson said they wanted to be open as soon as possible for local customers.
“We still have to get the Home Hardware sign up out front, and there are some renovations we need to do, but at the present, we’re open,” Norm said.
The Watsons expect the renovations to take another four to six weeks.
“After that, we will have bathroom, tub and shower displays, as well as the ability to keep some flooring in stock, not just have samples people can order from.”
Richard pointed out that the store was already fairly full as far as products go. He felt that opening as soon as possible was a good idea, however, so that customers of the Castle Building Centre had somewhere local to go for their needs.
“We wanted to reopen right off the bat as soon as we could,” Norm said. “Everything that’s happened here happened in two weeks.”
Under the Home Hardware flag, the store matches the needs filled by the Castle site but has also expands offerings to include housewares and small appliances.
The location is open daily Monday through Saturday, with a firm opening time yet to be established, and closes every day at 5 p.m.
Some familiar with the store will recognize former Castle Building Centre owner Gary Courtney still working at the location.
A grand opening will be held in the coming months once all the renovations are complete, Norm said, and will likely be accompanied by a special sale to mark the occasion.
As for what prompted the Watsons to go ahead with the purchase, they said the site was in a good location, half-way between their (now) second-newest store in Goderich and their other locations in Listowel and Gorrie.
“We have pretty good customer support in the area, so we wanted to be here for that,” Richard said.
Norm added that, seeing the investment and development that is currently happening in Blyth made it a great community to be part of with plenty of potential for growth.
