Students flock to North Woods for regional cross country meet - Oct. 11, 2018

North Woods Elementary School and Maitland River Elementary School had several competitors perform very well in the local cross country competition last week.
The event, held at North Woods on Oct. 4, narrowed the field for the district event set for Benmiller this week.
In the Girls 1,000-metre for eight and under category, Maitland River Elementary School captured all three medal positions as well as first place for the team competition.
Melana McBurney captured first place, Sophia Moffat took second place and Rainie Campbell took third place.
Elma Township Public School trailed Maitland River in the team rankings with North Woods capturing third place.
In the Boys 1,000-metre run for eight and under category, North Woods Kayde Smith took first place. River Jennings of Howick Elementary School took second while Ethan Smith of Elma took third place.
Listowel Eastdale Public School took first place in the team category with Elma and North Woods finishing second and third, respectively.
Nine-year-old competitors ran a 1,500-metre race. In the Girls race, Brianna McNichol took first place with fellow Maitland River Mustang Naomi Campbell taking second. Vanessa Albrecht of North Woods took third place.
Maitland River took the team trophy with Milverton and North Woods claiming second and third place.
In the Boys contest, Elma’s Curtis Stickler took first place with Hudson Imrie of Eastdale and Douglas Reid of Milverton claiming second and third respectively.
Eastdale took the team competition with Milverton and Alma trailing.
In the 1,500-metre, 10-year-old Boys race, Preston Robinson of Maitland River took first place. Gage Benner of Milverton claimed second place and Adler Shaw of Maitland River took third.
Maitland River took the team championship with Listowel and Milverton taking second and third, respectively.
Jasmine DeJong of Maitland River claimed victory in the Girls 1,500-metre, 10-year-old race with Avery Mair of Howick taking second and Hailey McLean of Elma claiming third place.
Eastdale claimed the top team spot with Elma taking second and Maitland River claiming third.
The Boys 1,800-metre 11-year-old race was won by Teague Vader of North Perth Westfield Elementary School. Rylan Heimpel of Howick claimed second place and Connor Finch of Maitland River claimed third.
North Perth took the team trophy with Maitland River claiming second and Eastdale following in third.
In the Girls 11-year-old race, Addison Imrie of Eastdale claimed first place while Addison Sage of Elma took second. Maitland River’s Leah Sangster claimed third place.
Maitland River took the top team trophy with Eastdale claiming second and Elma earning third.
The 2,000-metre Boys 12-year-old race was claimed by Logan Dallner of Elma. TJ Groves of F.E. Madill School claimed second place while Xavier Butcher-O’Neil of North Perth claimed third.
Milverton Public School claimed top spot in the team competition with Madill taking second and Elma claiming third.
The Girls 2,000-metre 12-year-old race was claimed by Sydney Brooks of North Perth, with Howick’s Berlyn Garniss claiming second and Hannah Logan of Madill taking third.
North Perth claimed the team top spot with Madill taking second and Howick third.
The 2,500-metre, 13-year-old Girls race was claimed by Camryn McCutcheon of North Perth. Lola Johnston and Abigail Peel, both of Madill, claimed second and third place, leading Madill to a team win over Howick.
In the 13-year-old Boys race, Eric Schmidt and Bryan Darou of North Perth took first and second place, respectively, while Madill’s Liam Watson took third place.
Madill took the first-place trophy, edging out North Perth and Howick.
