Pat, George Langlois celebrate 60th anniversary - July 19, 2018
George and Pat Langlois marked 60 years of marriage with a special celebration at the Huron Fish and Game Club in Clinton.
It was on July 12, 1958 that Patricia McPhail, the daughter of Winifred and Hugh McPhail of Copper Cliff, married George Langlois, the son of Joseph and Cecil Langlois of Sudbury.
The wedding took place at the United Church in Copper Cliff and Rev. Hillier presided over the ceremony.
Pat’s attendants were her sisters, Mary Bradshaw and Betty Glew, while George’s groomsmen were Willy Galapo, Connie Quenville and Joe Goegan.
For their honeymoon, George and Pat went to Niagara Falls, which, at the time, was the honeymoon capital of the world.
After living in Sudbury for some time, the family would eventually settle into their new home in Brussels before moving to Clinton in recent years.
George spent years as a hairdresser in Brussels, where he became known as “George of Brussels”. Pat was also a hairdresser for several years, though she had a varied work life, owning several businesses and working many jobs before finishing her career at Cinnamon Jim’s in Brussels before retiring.
Pat dedicated herself to raising their daughter and also spent time as a photographer for The Brussels Post.
George and Pat had one daughter, Susan. They have three grandchildren, Curtis, Maurissa and Brent, and three great-grandchildren, Kate, William and Ivadelle.
Over the years, both George and Pat have been very active members of their communities, especially as members of the Brussels Optimist Club, of which George was the charter president.
George is a winner of North Huron Publishing’s Citizen of the Year Award for his work throughout the Brussels community in 1992. He started the intramural slo-pitch tournament and intramural hockey in the village, while Pat was a gardening enthusiast who also enjoyed ceramics.
Both George and Pat have served on the Brussels, Morris and Grey Recreation Board and Pat currently sits on the Connecting the Dots healthcare board. Both greatly enjoy spending time with their family.
George and Pat have taken on the roles of Santa and Mrs. Claus in Brussels and other parades for several years. They have also played these roles at local schools, nursing homes OneCare and the Hill St. Christmas Eve celebration every year.
Their 60th anniversary celebration took place at the Huron Fish and Game Club in Clinton with over 150 family members and friends in attendance.
Both of Pat’s sisters were able to be part of the celebration, as were plenty of friends from Brussels as well as all of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George and Pat have celebrated every milestone anniversary since their 25th. They had a wonderful time with their friends and family and they look forward to celebrating their 65th anniversary with everyone in five years.
